Experience

I have a gift for helping students comprehend complex concepts: I am able to break difficult topics into simple components, and I am able to guide students in making connections. I am especially effective at working with students who feel they are "math challenged." I have been working one-on-one with students, both as a college instructor and as a private tutor, for more than ten years. Helping students gain confidence in themselves and in their ability to think mathematically is both my passion and my purpose. My dedication to teaching comes from an affinity for solving problems and a commitment to serving others. As a summa cum laude graduate in both my masters (arts of teaching) and bachelors (mathematics) degrees, I know that hard work and commitment to a solid grasp of course concepts pay off. As a teacher/tutor, I have had the pleasure of helping thousands of students gain confidence in themselves as critical thinkers and actually enjoy doing math. My ultimate goal in tutoring is to help students develop a growth mindset where they view challenging math problems as opportunities to test and develop their understanding. When students set down their fear of “getting a problem wrong” and replace it with calculated risk-taking, they realize “wrong answers” are often necessary stepping stones toward mastery. Students who focus on developing their problem solving abilities perform much higher than students who are focused on their letter grade. I specialize in tutoring adults and young adults. I can teach basic math (with deep understanding), pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, pre-calculus and trigonometry, calculus (I and II), probability and statistics. I often use assigned homework as a springboard for teaching and discussion, but I can create lessons and assignments for independent learning as well.

Hobbies

I am the wife of an amazing man, and I have six sons (all except the youngest are grown and out of the house). Collectively this group pretty much dominates the categories: hobbies and interests. As far as recreation goes, I most enjoy the simple things in life: playing cards and board games, going on road trips, sharing jokes and funny stories, and working out at the gym with family and friends.
